The course provides introduction to the topic of  mathematical modelling, in particular local and global formulation of problems of mathematical physics. Student will learn about methods of finding approximate solutions, in particular the Finite Element Method (FEM). The theory is illustrated with examples and assignments concerning  FEM for bar structures and two-dimensional problems of stationary heat transfer and continuum mechanics.
For laboratory exercises students will use ROBOT, MATLAB/OCTAVE and  ABAQUS.
